How Does Your Garden Groove?
(entering Grades 1&2)

Freddy and Franny Farmer’s garden vegetables are movin’ and groovin’ in this charming and imaginative mini-musical for primary-age students. This is not your typical garden-variety musical as the French fried potatoes have “appeal,” leafy vegetables sing “Lettuce Entertain You” and the corn and peas beg “Please Don’t Put Us in a Can-Can!” These lively veggies will sing and dance their way into everyone’s hearts!

Disney’s The Descendants The Musical
(entering Grades 3-7)

July 15 – July 26, 9:00 am- 3:00 pm

Performance: Friday July 26, 7:00 pm

Location: Grafton High School

Tuition: $800

Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movie, Disney’s Descendants: The Musical is jam-packed with comedy, adventure, Disney characters, and hit songs from the films!

Imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost – home of the most infamous villains who ever lived – the teenage children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella De Vil have never ventured off the island…until now. When the four troublemakers are sent to prep school alongside the children of beloved Disney heroes, they have a difficult choice: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

Let’s Eat! A Tasty Musical for Anyone Who Loves Food!
(entering Grades 3-7)

Hey, what’s cookin’? Join Hungry Hank, Famished Fanny, Ravenous Randi, Picky Pete and more wacky characters in this upbeat and tasty musical all about their insatiable appetites! We are fortunate to live in a land of plenty, and as we celebrate food in wonderfully wacky ways with songs like “The Fast Food Tango,” “Chicken Pot Pie,” “My Banana Split” and “Pizza,” we are also reminded to be “Thankful” for the bounty we regularly enjoy.

The Prom School Edition
(entering Grades 8-12)

Improv for Adults Level II

Wednesdays July 10 – August 14; 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Level II is for people who have taken Level I or have other improv experience.
Continue to gain skill and confidence in improv in this fun, supportive class taught by MB DeKara – teacher and performer at Improv Boston.

*Note: we are only offering Level II this summer. We plan to offer another beginner Level I class in the fall.

Music Group Classes

Entering Grades 5-8

Apple Jam Blues Improvisation Workshop

July 15 – July 19 ; 9:00 am -12:00 pm

Location: Apple Tree Arts Great Hall

Teachers: Christine Fawson, Tom Hojnacki

Tuition: $160

This workshop is an opportunity for students who want to challenge themselves in playing jazz/rock/funk music based on the blues. Students will learn about the 12-bar blues form, improvisation, and how to play in a swing style. Students will perform a brief concert and “blues jam” on Friday. This program is open to students who play band wind instruments. All students should have a minimum of 1 year playing experience on their instrument. This is great preparation for students who wish to audition for the Middle School or High School Jazz Band!

Summer Ukulele Workshops

Location: Apple Tree Arts

Teacher: Eric Guerin

Tuition: $30 per class

Ukulele: Island Strum (Beginner) – Tue July 9 or Mon August 12  6:30-8pm
In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of posture and where to strum on the ukulele, but then move beyond just down strums like which finger or fingers should be used, how to find a strum pattern that best fits a song and we’ll do an intensive on the “island strum.”

Ukulele: The Chuck, or, Percussive Strumming (Advanced Beginner) – Tue July 23 or Tue August 13   6:30-8pm
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to add fun, percussive elements to your strumming including the famous “Chuck.” We’ll add some rhythm techniques to your playing, with some well-known reggae and rock songs to learn and play along with.

Ukulele: Finger Pickin’ Good (Advanced Beginner) Tue July 30 or Wed August 14   6:30-8pm
In this introduction to fingerpicking workshop, we’ll work on how to position your hand for picking rather than strumming and learn how each finger plays its part in keeping time. We’ll learn a couple of basic fingerpicking patterns for songs to explore picking out arpeggiated chords on well-known songs.

Ukulele: Tablature / Playing the Melody (Advanced Beginner) Tue August 6 or Fri August 16   6:30-8pm
In this introduction to tablature or “tab” workshop we’ll take a deep dive into how to read tablature, what it adds to your playing, and how to pick the melody of a song. We will use well-known songs and melodies to build our skills playing tabs.

Foundational Voice for Teens and Adults

Mondays July 8 – August 12; 7:00 – 8:30 pm

Location: Apple Tree Arts

Teachers: Anina Lawrence

Tuition: $160

Join us for a 6-week workshop where we’ll learn about the voice as an instrument and tool for expressing emotion through song! We’ll cover breath and sound production, vocal tone qualities, how to truly engage with a song as a performer, and discover how all of these things are expressed in a performance. Students will have the opportunity to share a song with the group and receive coaching from Anina, as well as learn how to give and receive feedback from each other. The workshop will culminate with a karaoke party during week six, where we’ll sing songs and use all the techniques and tips from the workshop to inform our performances!

Intensive Intro to Guitar for Teens and Adults

Tuesdays and Thursdays July 30 – August 15

Time: 7:00 – 8:30 PM

Location: Apple Tree Arts

Tuition: $160

This intensive class will meet twice a week for 3 weeks. You will learn all of the basics of playing the guitar! We’ll learn a bunch of chords, some basic music theory and even learn to play a few songs!

Early Childhood Classes

Family Music for Toddlers (ages 1-4)

Wed 9:30-10:00am (30 minutes)

July 10 – August 21 (NO CLASS JULY 30)

Instructor: Beth Schreiber

Location: Apple Tree Arts

Fee: $150

These weekly classes are action-filled for toddlers—full of energy, often on the move, always exploring and learning—and their grown-ups. Together, you’ll sing, chant, move, dance, listen, and play simple instruments, all activities that bridge the natural connection between music and movement. Each lesson features movement activities for coordination, body awareness and control, exploration of space, and instruments such as rhythm sticks and jingles.

Family Music for Preschoolers (ages 3-5)

Wed 11:00-11:45am (45 min)

July 10 – August 21 (NO CLASS JULY 30)

Instructor: Beth Schreiber

Location: Apple Tree Arts

Fee: $150

These weekly classes are action-filled for preschoolers and their grown-ups! Explore music and movement through a nature-themed curriculum, with tuneful and rhythmic developmentally appropriate activities such as singing, call and response, circle games, dance, poetry, sensory exploration, and playing musical instruments.

Most slots are 30 minutes – just email info@appletreearts if you need a 45 or 60 min session on an available date.

Payment is due upon registration – payment plans are available by emailing info@appletreearts.org or calling 508-839-4286 – all July classes must be paid for by 7/31/2024.

*Note that summer lessons are “a la carte,” as opposed to regular weekly lessons.
