Shiver me timbers! Hoist the sail and join the pirate crew! An ornery yet sweet sea captain and his first mate transform landlubber students into pirates. They raise the Jolly Roger flag, spy with telescopes, find buried treasure and show “that” pirate pride in a raucous pirate party!

Based on the hit DreamWorks movie, Madagascar- A Musical Adventure Junior follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar!

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, “Newsies” is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged newsies. When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike agains the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

Apple Jam Blues Improvisation Workshop

This workshop is an opportunity for students who want to challenge themselves in playing jazz/rock/funk music based on the blues. Students will learn about the 12-bar blues form, improvisation, and how to play in a swing style. Students will perform a brief concert and “blues jam” on Friday. This program is open to students who play band wind instruments. All students should have a minimum of 1 year playing experience on their instrument. This is great preparation for students who wish to audition for the Middle School or High School Jazz Band!

Apple Tree Arts is proud to present the first ever Single Reed Skill Intensive week, led by longtime ATA faculty member and master clarinet/sax teacher Paul Surapine! Surapine brings his unique and proven methods of teaching to bear in an intense, but fun week of group activities.
Each daily session will be divided into 30 minute segments of:
- group exercise drill, which will focus on ALL aspects of technique and sound, exercises in finger movement, tonguing/staccato, hand position, and embouchure
- ensemble playing
- discussions on reed care, curation, and maintenance
- developing a practice regimen
- individual lessons and coaching in a group format
The session will conclude with a week ending performance!
The morning session will be geared towards beginning and intermediate level students. Students should be at a level equivalent to completion of the Rubank Elementary Method book, or a similar first year beginning method book.
The afternoon session will be geared toward advanced junior and senior high school students. Students should be at a level equivalent to junior and seniors district festival audition candidates.
Students who attend and complete the session will come away with a renewed sense of love and appreciation for their instrument and its possibilities, and a positive and confident methodology for personal achievement and success.

Let’s learn how to play the ukulele! This 6-week course, designed for kids, introduces students to playing the uke in a group setting. We will learn how to play chords and how to strum, and then we will learn how to play songs! The ukulele is a perfect instrument for kids to use to develop fundamental musical skills that will last a lifetime!

Learning guitar can be simple and fun! In this 6 week course for teens and adults, we will learn the fundamentals of the guitar- how to tune a guitar, hold a guitar, and strum a guitar. We will learn the fundamentals of strumming chords and playing melody, using the chords G, D, Em, and C, as well as major scale shape to play songs! No prior guitar or musical knowledge is necessary, and by the end of the course, you will be able to play and create music on the guitar!
Family Music for Toddlers
Family Music (ages 1-4 with adult caregiver)
We are offering two, six week Family Music classes this summer! These will be slightly shortened versions of the classes that we offer year round for our youngest learners! Each lesson will feature movement activities for coordination, body awareness and control, exploration of space, and instruments such as rhythm sticks and jingles.

Music Explorers: Drop-off Playgroups for Toddlers
Music Explorers: Drop off Playgroups for ages 3-5
Have your child become a Music Explorer! Led by early childhood education Jessica Gelineau, MT-BC, this six week program will allow children to learn about music through developmentally appropriate activities such as play, sensory exploration, arts and crafts, story time, and more! Students will also gain valuable socialization experience with their peers to prepare them for preschool. Parents can drop off their child by 9:30, and return for pickup at 11:30. We do request that each student be potty trained prior to their participation in this program, and that they bring water and a snack. If children require additional assistance or special accommodations, please reach out to the instructor (jessica.g@appletreearts.org)
